Realms of Myst

Characters

It should go without saying that creating your character is the first step. Unfortunately, it is also true that most people screw up on their first character. Don't worry: you can have more than one.

Type "new" to create a new character and enter a name. It should be a medieval name that fits into the genre. If you pick something inappropriate, you will be asked to change it later. (XxxBiGDuDexxX will be destroyed on sight). You name must not contain spaces or special characters. Pick a password, any password, but not too easy to guess. Sex - you can me male, female, or neither. Then you must pick your character's class and race, in that order. They should be chosen to go together. In general, the descriptions follow the ideas in Dungeons and Dragons and in the Tolkien "Lord of the Rings" stories. Your class is your profession, what you do, as in a fighter type, a magic user, a rogue, etc. Your race is what species you are, as in Human, Elf, Dwarf, etc. Your alignment will be neutral when you start. What you do in the game makes you good or evil. Certain combinations of class and race go together, while others would make poor choices or are not allowed.

Classes include:
Magicians: Mage, Cleric, Druid :
These are primary magic users who are not very good at combat or weapons, but have powerful magic spells. Mages specialize in attack spells to kill the enemy, clerics in healing and protection spells. Both can brew their own potions and scribe scrolls. Druids have magic based on nature and can gain great strength.
Fighters: Warrior, Ranger, Paladin :
These are primary fighters who specialize in strength, combat, and weapons. Warriors have no magic, but have the most fighting skills and non-magical attacks. Rangers have nature-based magic. Paladins are holy warriors who gain protective magic by being true to the path of good.
Rogues: Thief, Vampire, Augurer :
These characters go their own way: Thieves specialize in stealing and dirty fighting tactics. They make good assassins. Vampires use the power of their blood for magic, gain special gothic blood spells, and are awesome fighters. Augurers are warrior-mages, combining the disciplines of the fighter and the mage. This gives them special power, but they will not get the very best of either magic or combat skills.
Others: Necromancer, Mutant, Bard :
These are experimental classes for players who want to try something different. Necromancers are magicians with spells oriented towards evil and death. Mutants are strange beings who haphazardly combine the abilities of others.
Bard is a special class for people who really don't want to play the hack-and-slash game, and are here mainly just to roleplay. If that is your mission, choose Bard. Bards get all of the most basic survival skills at very low levels, and after that don't get much in either the combat or magic areas.

Races include:
Human --- the generic race, with no inherent strengths or weaknesses.
Dwarf --- short, hardy and hairy; often cantankerous in personality.
Hobbit --- short, quick and furry; mischievous and head-strong.
Elf --- tall, thin and swift like the wind; close to nature and earth.
Half-Elf --- a mix of Human and Elf, possess the advantages of both.
Sea-Elf --- born of the sea, natural ability to breath under water.
Drow --- dark cousins of the elf, with a drawing to magic and spells.
Pixie --- a winged race, small of stature and with keen minds.
Gith --- gaunt, twisted, and gangly, these astral beings see the invisible.
Gnome --- Demi-human creatures, well suited for magic and religion.
Orc --- evil natured, squat, smelly, humanoids, with a love for war.
Ogre --- created to destroy humans, they are dark and powerful warriors.
Troll --- huge, strong, ancient creatures lacking in wisdom and skills.
Lizardman --- descended from draconians, these reptiles are strong creatures.

Stats

After you have selected your class and race you will be confronted with a statroller. Unless it is very good, do NOT just say "whatever" and accept whatever the first result is, or you may be "statscrewed". Keep in mind what stats are important for your class and what you want for your character. Also, regardless of what the roller says, you cannot have any base stat higher than 18. Here is some information on stats.

Describing your Character

When you reach level 5, you get the desc and bio commands.
These will allow you to write a description for what people see when they look at you, and information that they can read by typing whois {yourname}.

You can also earn glory in the game and use it to rename your equipment that you wear.
