There are over 117 areas on Realms of Myst, and more planned.
Some of these are "stock" areas, the ones that come with the smaug distribution,
changed and customized for RoM. Some are downloaded and similarly updated.
If you are an old player, you may see some areas you recognize. Others are
original areas written by me and my friends. I will point out only a few of
these here on the web site. You can see a list of areas in game by typing the
command "areas". The list includes recommended levels for each area. To level
your character, when you become bored with the Academy, look for areas in the
list that are in your level range that interest you and go there. Directions
to selected areas are available in the game, an some maps can be found on this
web site.
Darkhaven and Core
The City of Darkhaven is the center of our world, wherein you will find the
greatest number of shops and total rooms of any city. It contains the Academy
for training new players, the main temple, where you go when you die, guild
headquarters and many communication boards. The Courier is the MUD Mail facility.
The four main highways lead out of the city in the cardinal directions to the
other areas of the world.
Deadly City
Discordia is home to the Deadly players of the Realms. This city of murder
lies in the plains beyond the Badlands. While it is not off limits to peaceful
players by the rules, it is highly recommended that they do not go there; those
who do may (or will, according to where they go) find themselves suddenly dead.
Other Cities
There are other major cities that provide full services.
These include Ofcol and Raff Village, Laer, Solace, and Lanfear.
There should be something of interest in every city.
Racial Homes
Eventually I plan there to be Hometowns for different races.
So far there are only two: The Half-Drow reside in the Underhalls: a
"city below the city" under Darkhaven. Lizardmen have the Swamp of the Okwyl.
This is a very detailed special homeland for the most non-humanoid of the races.
It also has a built in quest.
My Areas
A lot are simply connecting areas built to join and transition things.
A few are very small areas with a special quest-like theme, like Eladnorc.
Some are major areas. The areas that I (or my friends) have created that I will
suggest here are ...
Directions
Directions to areas can be read in the game by going to the Hall of Lands.
This room is in a series of rooms in an underground passage between the Darkhaven
Academy and the City of Darkhaven. Rooms to the East contain useful information
for new players. To reach the Hall of Lands, from the Darkhaven Academy (at Tsythia)
go: u, 2s, e. Look at the sign and type "look codes01"... etc.

Some maps can be found on the Maps page.
